Grinding jobs with significant material removal using a manual machine can be handled with abrasive discs. The most effective devices for this purpose are angle grinders and hand drills. To attach the abrasive discs to the support plate, two methods are generally used:

• Screwing: a central hole is provided for this purpose in the abrasive disc
• HST 359: Attachment with hook-and-loop fastener: the abrasive disc has a velor or hook-and-loop backing for this purpose

Depending on the specifically intended use (aggressive grinding, deburring, rust removal, finishing, polishing or final surface treatment), the suitable abrasive is selected accordingly. All abrasive discs from the Klingspor range with a hook-and-loop backing can be used on the HST 359 adhesive backing plate.

Which abrasive is suitable?

The correct abrasive must be selected for the job to be carried out. Coarse work requires a large grain size, while fine grinding or polishing is done with a fine grain size. For hard materials, such as glass, ceramics or mineral materials, a correspondingly hard grain type, such as silicon carbide, should be chosen; Rather stiff materials are ground with one of three types of corundum (corundum, zirconium corundum or ceramic corundum). Each of these variants is available in the Klingspor range as a suitable disc with hook-and-loop backing, for this the HST 359 adhesive backing plate for hook-and-loop discs was designed in-house. The backing pad is intended for medium-duty grinding and polishing work.

Easy sanding disc replacement with hook-and-loop fastener

The HST 359 adhesive backing pad has a fine hook-and-loop backing, to which sanding discs with velor backing or hook-and-loop cloth can be attached. To replace the abrasive disc, simply remove the old abrasive by hand. No tools are required for this. When installing the new abrasive disc, care must be taken to position it as centrally as possible in order to keep imbalance, and therefore vibrations, to a minimum.
